The £1.9m, 261mph, Chiron heads to the US for our best look yet at its exquisite detailing
The last few days have seen all manner of wonderful machines drop in on California, with the Pebble Beach concours and Quail motorsport events celebrating everything fast and lovely in the world of cars.
One car that conclusively ticks off both ‘fast’ and ‘lovely’ is the Bugatti Chiron. We’re yet to drive it, but we’ve had plenty of time to pore over its specs. Namely a 1,479bhp, 8-litre, quad-turbo W16 engine that propels the four-wheel-drive hypercar to a claimed 261mph top speed.
That’s via a frankly disturbing 2.5-second 0-62mph time. By the time a Ford Ka has completed the same benchmark, the Chiron will be doing 186mph. It’s 13.6-second sprint beats a McLaren P1 by nearly three seconds. It’s not slow. Nope.
But speed is only part of the story, and this weekend’s festivities have been a chance for Bugatti to show the rich and famous (and their itchy wallet pockets) just what a trinket this is.
Thus we get this new photoshoot, showing off this particular Chiron’s blue carbonfibre weave, its somewhat bright red interior, and some of the finest stitching we’ve seen in a car. Oh, and doesn’t every speedometer need to go up to 300mph?
