Cargo Space and Storage

Cargo Space and Storage
2017 Mazda CX-3 | Cargo Space and Storage Review

As with its passenger space, the CX-3 is stingy when it comes to cargo room. In both of our storage tests, it fell at or near the bottom of the pack.

Behind its second row, we managed to fit three of our carry-on suitcases, and the CX-3 maxed out at 12 with the rear seats folded. For comparison’s sake, the similarly sized Mazda 3 hatchback accommodated five carry-ons behind its back seat and 15 with the seat stowed.
Cargo Volume Comparisons
A glance at the numbers reveals why the CX-3 struggles in our storage testing. Its 12-cubic-foot cargo hold is half of that offered by the Honda HR-V and the Kia Soul.
Liftover Height
Lifting heavy objects into the CX-3 will also be more of a challenge, as the cargo floor is five inches higher off the ground than the Honda HR-V’s.
Interior Cubby Storage
Small-item storage is equally disappointing. The CX-3 accommodated 243 ping-pong balls inside its passenger compartment. An underfloor cubby in the cargo area held 720 balls—good for the class—but the area is inaccessible while you’re on the go.
